Q. Will
the FreshCoat process work on any hardwood floor?
A. Yes!
FreshCoat is compatible with every type of hardwood floor and every
type of hardwood floor finish.
Q. How
long does FreshCoat last?
A. As far
as protection from wear-thru is concerned, you can expect from
between 5 and 10 years of protection. However, most of our
clients are calling us because of surface scratches and such.
These can start becoming noticeable in as little as two to four
years. Bottom line, the better you protect your floor from
damage, the longer it will look good.
Q. I
just pulled up my carpet and there is hardwood flooring underneath;
will FreshCoat help me?
A. Yes,
FreshCoat can help every hardwood floor. However most customers
choose FreshStart when their floors have been covered or otherwise
ignored/neglected for any length of time.
Q. What
is FreshCoat?
A. A
maintenance procedure which enhances the cosmetic appearance and
durability characteristics of a hardwood floor wear layer surface.
Q. Most
of the scratches on my floors are deep into the wood itself; can
FreshCoat help me?
A. Deep
surface defects may be improved or camouflaged with our custom
touch-up service, but do not expect perfection. Consider FreshStart.
Q.
What’s the difference between FreshCoat and FreshStart?
A.
FreshCoat is our top surface re-coating service, FreshStart is our
complete re-sanding service.
Q. How
long does the FreshCoat Process take to do?
A. Most
jobs are done in two to four hours.
Q. How
long do I have to wait to go back on my floors once the job is done?
A. The
finish dries to the touch in less than an hour, and you can resume
light activity in two to four hours after the finish is dry. For the
first seven days, however you should treat the floors with extra
care.
Q. My
floors started out a lot shinier than they are now; can FreshCoat
restore that shine?
A. Yes,
FreshCoat is available in three gloss levels: 30% Low-gloss satin,
70% Semi-gloss and 90% High-gloss. The Freshwood Company recommends
the lower-gloss ‘satin’ finish which tends to stay nicer-looking
longer.
Q. Does
FreshCoat work on pre-finished floors?
A.
Absolutely! In fact, some pre-finished floors cannot be re-sanded
due to a thin hardwood wear layer, so routine maintenance with the
FreshCoat process is vital.
Q. Who
takes care of the furniture moving?
A. Unless
pre-arranged with The Freshwood Company, we assume you will have the
entire floor area cleared and ready to receive FreshCoat. If you
prefer we can coat around large items like pianos, entertainment
centers and other hard to move items.
Q. Can
I change the color of my floors with FreshCoat?
A. No,
since we are not removing the finish layer we cannot change the
flooring’s color. The FreshStart process can accommodate color
change.
Q. Will
someone come to my home to estimate the cost of FreshCoat?
A. No, we
rely on you to approximate the size of the job, from there, we will
estimate the cost over the phone and confirm your measurements when
the technician arrives to perform the work.
Q. How
can I determine the size of my flooring?
A. For
square and rectangular shaped rooms, simply multiply the width by
the length. For more complex areas such as kitchens, split the
irregular shaped area into easy to measure squares and rectangles.
Ask your representative for our ‘Self Measurement Guide’.
Q. Will
FreshCoat Fill-in the cracks in my floor?
A. No, if
you have large gaps between the boards, this is likely related to
the relative humidity in your home. See "How Moisture and Humidity
affects Hardwood Flooring" for more information. The FreshStart
process includes a fill operation which will, at least temporarily,
cure this problem.
Q. Do I
need to have the shoe or base molding replaced at the time of the
FreshCoat process?
A. No, but
if you like we can perform this for you at an additional charge.
Q. I
have had an area rug on my floor for several years. The sun has
darkened the surrounding floors and the area under the rug is
lighter. Will FreshCoat take care of this issue?
A. No,
This would require our FreshStart process so we can completely
remove the entire polyurethane wear layer.
Q. What
should I do to keep the scratches and other damage from occurring
after FreshCoat?
A. Every
item of furniture should have protective felt pads, and you should
keep them up. Also, keeping the floor as clean as possible will help
too. See "Maintenance Tips".
Q. Will
FreshCoat scratch?
A. Yes.
Even though FreshCoat is extremely durable, it is NOT bulletproof.
Care should be taken to prevent surface damage, but keep in mind
that FreshCoat was developed to take care of this damage, preventing
the need for complete re-sanding due to minor damage.
Q. I
have large dogs, and rowdy children, can FreshCoat help me?
A. Yes.
You may want to consider a more aggressive FreshCoat schedule (maybe
once a year). Keep in mind that the more finish coats on the floor
the greater the protection the finish will provide.
